We are ready to support our customers with the schematic capture.

  • We can work using netlist, schematic design file, PDF to be imported or converted into an ideal CAD design.
  • We can do reverse engineering using an existing printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). Not only will we provide the Gerber file but also a clean bill of material (BOM).
  • Our schematic design will be clean and easy to follow for the lab technicians, design engineers, or field technicians as needed.

Having an accurate and complete schematic diagram is where the concept of the first time and every time right “First Time Right - FTR” commences of any PCB hardware design. The final product of any PCB design is founded on the correctness and accuracy of the schematic design. The schematic design should be viewed from the fact that it will be used to communicate with the PCB designer, the FAB house, the Assembly house and even the mechanical designer. Most importantly the schematic must be reviewed and checked over and again for the accuracy of its functionality.

PCB layout design is the essence of our proficiency in this industry. Whether it is the simplest 2 layers board or be it high-density interconnect (HDI), we have the expertise to meet our customer's needs. The layout design is the bridge to communicate the design database with the fab house in the form of a Gerber and or the intelligent data format of ODB++. The working functionality of the electronic design will mainly depend on the correctness of the schematic design, but it should also be noted that if the PCB layout is not done with the proper steps and rules, it is guaranteed to get a product that is either not functional at all or will be working intermittently. Using our wealth of knowledge in designing analog, digital, RF, and mixed-signal designs, we are sure that we will get it right the first time.

Throughout the PCB layout design process our customers will be contacted regularly to answer and clarify any question noticed on the schematic. Also, there will be a review stages of the design to make sure that there is good communication between the customer and our design team.

They can handle both prototypes as well as low to medium-volume production runs. They also undertake any IC programming as needed. Functional testing (FCT) is part of their high-end service. Providing well-documented assembly documents is key to achieving a first-time-right assembly product. Conformal Coatings

PCB Layout Design in Africa

One of our core rationales for starting ADDIS PCB Design LLC is to create awareness to the bright and innovative young Africans that they can and must play their part to make Africa be part of the global Printed Circuit Board (PCB) industry. It is projected that the global PCB market size to reach $86,170 Million USD by 2026. The continent of Africa does not have any part in the projected market size of any kind other than being a consumer with a population of 1.216 Billion.

When we think of PCB, the first thing that comes to our mind is the fabrication process of the PCB. That being the core of the process, the initial development starts with the PCB layout design. Without the artwork (Gerber files) generated by the PCB layout designer, it will not be viable to manufacture the PCB. Therefore, the groundwork of the process is the PCB layout design.

PCB layout design can and should be mastered by as many African young students and should be encouraged by every institute throughout the continent. PCB layout design is a very exciting and worthwhile job that can be learned by all Electrical Engineering students and or any technical school attendees. All the major electronic design automation (EDA) tools can be made available for any university and college for free. There are a number of EDA software’s that are available these days to learn and be able to know how to design PCB layout.

Once the artwork (Gerber) is finalized, the ensuing phase of the course is the fabrication advancement. This is the step to transform the artwork into a physical shape. The fabrication part of the PCB design process is by far the one that may be a bit challenging as it is a technique that involves various steps such as

  1. Copper-clad lamination.
  2. Etching of copper from the layers.
  3. Putting together (laminating) by heating and pressing the etched two-sided copers to create the board stack up.
  4. Drilling holes and vias.
  5. Plating holes and via holes.
  6. Putting solder mask.
  7. Reference designator, logos, and any other identification will be printed on the silkscreen.

The fabrication part of the PCB design process can be challenging. While outsourcing is the ideal route for this part of the process, for anyone who is intending to undertake this part of the industry it is safer to start fabricating with simple two-layer boards then move towards multilayer board fabrication.

Printed Circuit Boards Assembly (PCBA)

It is very clear that China has become the stronghold of electronics manufacturing. The baby steps that China has been taking more than 20 years ago has now made it to be the powerhouse of the electronics industry. It did not blossom overnight but it took its own course of hard work and commitment to get the major part of the PCB output of the world.

Africa should learn from China and start to take those small steps. Apply the popular Chines proverb "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now"

Addis PCB Design has been trying to communicate and even collaborate with institutes and organizations in Ethiopia to implement ways to take the small steps. Addis Abeba Science and Technology University AASTU), as well as Ethiopian Toll Roads Enterprise (ETRE), are two of the institution and organizations that ADDIS PCB proposed ways to start and apply the small steps using technology transfer.

Currently, Addis PCB Design is working closely with local sister company ADDIS Tech Group to start PCB Assembly for prototype boards.
